The Value of Your Contribution
If heaven could be obtained by human endeavours, then it must either be of little worth, or they must be of great value. But He who puts an estimate upon all things according to their true value, has said, "When ye have done all those things which are commanded you, say, 'We are unprofitable servants; we have done that which was our duty to do'." We are not only unprofitable when all is to be done, but when all has been done. We are unprofitable to God, because He is necessarily and eternally blessed without us; we are not profitable to ourselves, because without Him we shall be everlastingly cursed in ourselves.

Tony,

This is a sobering truth about our unprofitability. In ourselves, we're like bad stock that just keeps falling!

The reference to God's eternal blessedness is interesting. There are three places in the New Testament where it says God is "forever blessed" (actually, one of them says "blessed forever," but considering the jumbled nature of Greek sentences, it probably means the same thing). In any case, we can infer from this that the 3 persons of the Trinity are constantly blessing one another (and always have been because it is God's very nature to bless what is good and worthy) and any blessedness we receive or take part in is only "by invitation" into this wondrous fellowship that God has with (or should I say within?) Himself. This is amazing and humbling to think of. Also makes me incredibly grateful for the invitation I've received!

Blessings (times 3),
Derek
