We must not......be surprised if in our own day, the teaching of the Lord’s sovereignty in the commencement, continuance and consummation of salvation is offensive to many of the hearers, and thins their ranks greatly. This is often its intended purpose, for the Lord is not interested in numbers for numbers’ sake. He often drives away the individual that would take the crown of glory from the Lord’s head and place it upon his own head by claiming to have a part in saving himself, or keeping himself saved.
