Simplicity in Christ
This is (a picture of) the road to Christ Jesus. It is no roundabout road of the law; it is no obeying this, that, and the other; it is a straight road: "Believe, and live." It is a road so hard, that no self-righteous man can ever tread it, but so easy, that every sinner, who knows himself to be a sinner may by it find his way to heaven.

C.H. Spurgeon - Morning and Evening - Evening, Feb 4th

Tony,

Great quote. There's a beautiful paradox here, I think. :)

How HARD it is for a "rich man" (especially a spiritually rich, self-righteous man) to enter the Kingdom of God.

How EASY it is to come to Christ when we realize that our baggage, our cherished suitcase full of our own righteousness, is actually filled with the spiritual equivalent of dung - and we leave it all behind to follow after true riches in Jesus.

How STRANGE it is (to us) that God would call us, and receive us, and love us.

How NATURAL all of this is to Him.

It's beyond belief - and yet it MUST be believed.

The odd wonders of grace.
